Fiona and Noel Miskell enjoyed a fantastic all expenses paid trip to the Cheltenham festival after winning a competition in the Irish Sun newspaper and saw Benbyas carry their colours with great credit in the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle - the final race of the three day meeting.

The couple are pictured above with jockey P J Brennan in the parade ring before Benbyas made much of the running in one of the most competitive races of a brilliant week. Caught in action vying for the lead with the Martin Pipe-trained Idaho D'Ox, he disputed matters until after the penultimate hurdle and only gave best on the home turn before finishing a highly creditable sixth.

The deal to lease the horse was arranged by Club Racing and the rain came just too late, otherwise it may have been an even better result, for Benbyas has since won twice on the flat and been second in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr on the soft ground he simply loves.

Another recent highlight for Club Racing, concerned producing the Alan Jarvis trained 'Its Definite' at Newmarket - for a party of eight prize winners and their guests, who had won a racehorse for the day plus a champagne lunch, courtesy of the BHB sponsored 'thrill of ownership' promotion.

Its Definite, who had finished 3rd in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot on his previous appearance, did us proud. An excellent 2nd, conceding almost two stone to the winner, he was all set to bid for a major prize at Glorious Goodwood afterwards, but struggled somewhat in the unexpected soft ground and then went up to Doncaster where he made the top price in the horses in training sale.

In a couple of recent seasons, Club Racing have organised a night’s racing at Thirsk for the local Member of Parliament, Miss Anne McIntosh, in recognition of the tremendous work she has done to support countryside issues - particularly hunting, racing and agriculture.

The most recent evening was a great success - and over 185 people assembled in the Club Racing marquee to take part in the prize-draw for ownership of the Tim Easterby trained Thewhirlingdervish, which had been leased for the occasion from Major & Mrs Ivan Straker.

Thewhirlingdervish ridden by Kevin Darley started 6/4 favourite in the Skybet handicap and gave everyone a real thrill to dead-heat for third place.

Paschal Murphy enjoyed the winning touch at Navan courtesy of Sporting Index and Club Racing when Marionnaud carried his green and yellow colours to victory on the Irish track in October 2001.  Accountant Paschal from County Meath won a Sporting Index competition with a racehorse for the day as his prize.

Club Racing invited Jim Bolger to select the horse, and he provided juvenile filly Marionnaud, while jockey Kevin Manning got her home by a head in the £15,000 Tally Ho Nursery.  The filly had earlier won at Roscommon and has since completed a four-timer with victories at Naas and in a Listed event at Leopardstown.

Paschal and his wife Mary, had a great day. He collected IR £1500 as his part of the prize money, along with a hand painted figurine in his own colours and a set of memento photographs and he later travelled to the Sporting Index Chase meeting at Cheltenham  to be presented with a specially commissioned painting from celebrated contemporary artist Gordon King - whose work appears throughout this website.

Several other Sporting Index winners have enjoyed their big day at the races too. Tony McLanders saw Justupyourstreet finish third at Newcastle, Ross Ovland had Blue Velvet when the filly was fifth in a competitive sprint at the Newmarket Craven meeting and Philip Surtees had his colours carried into second place by Master of Illusion in a long distance chase at Warwick - all part of the Club Racing service.

In April 2000, they were responsible for the leasing of three horses in the Martell Grand National at Aintree - the world's greatest race.

Addington Boy was leased to the winner of a competition organised by the race sponsors Martell and finished fifth to earn £12,500 while Hollybank Buck finished tenth- and Buck Rogers - who was leased to the Racing for Life Charity, was chasing the leaders when he fell six fences from home.

In April 2001, Addington Boy was again leased to the race sponsors Martell, who together with Aintree Racecourse, gave the horse as a prize in a competition especially arranged to raise money for farmers affected by the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak.

The thirteen year old ran in the name and specially chosen colours of The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, and the public were invited to call or write in with a minimum £5.00 donation.  One lucky donor, Mr Rhys from Dwsed, Glamorgan - randomly drawn on the afternoon before the race, was invited to travel with a guest as the owner of Addington Boy for the day and to receive 12% of any prize money won!

Sadly, Addington Boy got no further than the second fence this time, having been brought down by a fallen horse.  However, it was immensely gratifying to see the enormous amount of goodwill generated amongst the farming community by Aintree and the race sponsors Martell, and the way in which they were supported by the BBC, in this inspired use of a single race lease.

Muhtafel was leased to Doncaster St Leger sponsors, Pertemps, on their big day a couple of seasons ago and won - only to lose the race in the Stewards room.

There's nothing quite like the thrill of seeing your own colours coming through with a winning chance and there have been many other memorable occasions for Club Racing clients.

A Norfolk-based company, asked us to produce the prizes for their national sales teams.  We suggested a day's racing for the five winners, based on a table for lunch and tea in the members' restaurant, with the overall winning team also owning a racehorse for the day!  The winners chose Haydock for their day out, and we selected a high profile Channel 4 Racing televised sprint Handicap for their owner's race!  Sharp Hat, trained by David Chapman and ridden by Tony Culhane - wearing the company's specially chosen black and yellow silks, turned in a fine effort on the heavy ground and was only narrowly beaten into third place.  However, with the chance to have backed their own horse each way at a generous 14/1, and the prospect of their 25% share of the third prize money, it could not have mattered less as the party assembled in the winners' enclosure to welcome their horse into the third slot, and line up for their photograph!

Why not try a "Top Hat and Tails" Raceday Package for Derby Day or Royal Ascot, or savour the highlights of the National Hunt season at Cheltenham or Aintree - ownership of a racehorse in your (or your Company's) name and chosen colours - to run in one of the feature races on the day, with up to 25% of the prize money!
